Thank you for this. I will not be with my kids or my mother this Sunday so I appreciated it.

Utterly beautiful. I love how descriptive your poem is.

I am a Mom and I don't have any plans for Sunday besides hanging out with my littles. I typically post on Sundays, but maybe I'll give myself a break since it's Mother's Day.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

Sunday (and every day) is yours to do as you want. Rest sounds wonderful, I hope you enjoy.

Rachel I'm grateful I read this piece, as I remembered my mother growing up, it almost brought tears to my eyes.

I won't be able to be with her in the coming mother's day, she's 84 years old and still active, I'll be spending time with my own children who are coming back from college.

Happy mother's day to all the great mothers in here!!

What a wonderful way to spend the day, Paula. Also 84 and active is a blessing. I wish you both nothing but a day filled with joy.

“even when those same children

wear the face of their

heartbreak with utter innocence”

i felt this part. if i captured it correctly, its the story of a mother/woman whose lover left her with a child to take care of alone. With the promise of someday getting married or loving her but once the child got into the picture he fled?

and now, that child is a constant reminder of the love she once had? 🥲

Yup, yup, spot on! A kid who looks exactly like their dad with zero clue the part they play in a larger reality.

"looks like their dad" hits different. Sigh!

Pregnancy is a really wild thing. I’ll never get over the fact that we all lived inside someone else before emerging into the world. I don’t think I’ll ever get over the miracle of it all. Thanks for reading.

Thank you on multiple levels for this! Not only am I a mother but I’m so honored to be mentioned in your post.

There are so many incredible things I’d love to point out and share but for now I want to bask in this beautiful moment.

I’m so blessed to have found my little corner here on Substack! Thank you so much ☺️

I’m so glad you feel seen!

I felt seen by your piece. I’m all about romance so your post was absolute *chef kiss*

I needed the reminder I’m the captain of my lived experience. 🫡💛

Expand full comment

☺️☺️☺️ I believe that’s a reminder we all could use. I’m not revisiting how to add some romance back into my everyday experience. This Mother’s Day will be spent romanticizing my experiences while cherishing the daughter I’ve been blessed with to share them with!!!

Oh Rachel, my heart. 🥹 This Mother’s Day I chose to spend being hugged up while my baby is with her daddy lol. I’m currently writing about one of my favorite memories with my mother and it was teaching her how to play sudoku while stuck on the highway for two hours in stopped traffic.

That must have been some real traffic 😂 to bust out a pen and start playing. I can’t wait to read it when you share 😊

There is no other like women; without them, we wouldn't be here. They are more connected to the universe more than men by virtue of moon's rotation every month. They take care of us from seeds, foetus to even adulthood. Their motherly love is incomparable.

I have written severally about women's strength and where policies go wrong. Despite being our mother's, capitalism only works for men. Governments, NGOs, businesses, and international agencies haven't capitalize on the strengths of women to lift their economic fortunes.
