I love this. I’ve always been curious when the booing started and who has been booed. I know about Luther Vandross, Lauryn Hill, even Dave Chappelle when he was 14 …he was like, who boos a child pursuing their dreams?😂😂 so great. I never visited the Liberty Bell and I grew up in Philly.
No! 😂…he said he still remembers that Boo! He said it was the best thing that ever happened because it made him fearless. He said there were old people in the audience booing! 😂
I love the piece. I also love the endless iterations of the word "history." "always been there" 400 years after Santa Fe had a piano. Many homes in Europe to this day, have furniture older than Santa Fe.
Entire villages in Africa are older than sovereign in Europe. History. Time. So ethereal.
Your context is awesome. So many great shows. So many cultural advantageous events! Truly thought Buddy Holly and The Crickets would've had them dancing in the aisles? Every African-American icon, to those who want it to be.
This takes me back to being a child watching Apollo as a family- with my mom, grandparents, cousins, aunts, and siblings. It was a culture ritual, a time when there was some togetherness while watching a program at a set time. I remember how baffled I was when audiences made the transition to booing gospel performers. What a time to witness the Apollo.
emphasis on lantern flies being disrespectful
TRULY! Like, go away!

Well since it began in 1934 I think it’s safe to say a whole handful of people have been boo’d off the stage.
Being boo’d as a child built Chanelle’s character I see 😂 took no wind out of his sails.

What a sermon on facing failure.
Spotted lantern flies are TERRIFYING. The way they hop! Their aggressive red! Nature couldn't have designed a more horrible menace.
The long legs. The erratic flights. The absolute audacity to land on you. It’s all outrageous.
So much history within those walls.
Right! I just wanted to walk all around the building.
As much as I hate to admit it, I got that same feeling when I stepped inside of the Ryman auditorium. At least it was deeper in the Apollo! 😝

I can’t relate because I always clicked by any Apollo programming - what a missed opportunity
But not the gospel singers 😭 they should have prayed harder.
