What's your favorite type of cuisine, and do you have a go-to dish when dining out?

right now, it’s easily Chinese special fried rice with pork.

.

What’s your idea of a perfect romantic evening?

laying down on top of grass in the middle of a park with both me and her upside down to each other with our faces looking up the sky and chatting.

How important are anniversaries to you, and do you like to plan in advance or be spontaneous?

plan? i suck at that. Most likely why i got served breakfast.

.

What kind of atmosphere do you prefer in a speakeasy – lively and bustling or quiet and intimate?

red hot quiet and intimate

🥡Pork fried rice always slaps, add some pineapple to it and it’s a true delicacy

🌆 I see you’re into the Spider-man way of life, I love a grassy date as well. Totes relatable.

🗒️ Really????? I love a plan. So much so I have to remind myself a list is just a guide and to allow space for things not to always work out. I get rather attached to an opportunity for perfection to ensue.

🔥 I’d love a (semi)loud but intimate number of people in a speak easy so that each conversation is private and everyone has elbow room.

Thanks for sharing Tobi 😋

pineapple fruit or pineapple juice ?

Fruit! Pineapple fried rice in itself is bomb but when paired with pork they compliment each others flavors.

oh wow! my mouth is watery. 😱

btw, you wrote a bomb review for this Chef’s Table. I bet they themselves can’t write it this good. They better roll out your cheque.

Hahahaha I guess I should send it to them and say thank you for the wonderful evening 😋

I appreciate your feedback.

Spontaneity has always been my guise in place of procrastination. Now I lean more towards planning. There’s something satisfying about the face of joy on the receiving end of a well thought out experience(s).

That face of joy makes all the time and effort totally worth it 😘

Brooklyn Fare sounds like such a grounded yet decadent treasure (and it sounds perfect for an adventurous introvert--was it?).

And isn't it wonderful to have a photo of you, satisfied? That is sumptuous. I love this for you, Rachel!

Oh! I need to answer your questions:

What's your favorite type of cuisine, and do you have a go-to dish when dining out?

Good is my favorite cuisine. I like to be open to delight. But we do tend toward sushi for special occasions.

What’s your idea of a perfect romantic evening?

Something sensuous: the scent of my love's neck, the sizzle of scallops, the suppleness of berries between my teeth, the effervescence of bubbles on my tongue, the night breezes creating gooseflesh on my skin. Romance, to me, captivates my senses.

How important are anniversaries to you, and do you like to plan in advance or be spontaneous?

They are important, but we have learned to keep the acknowledgement flexible (according to time, budget, etc.). We decide our milestones and celebrate them with advanced planning.

What kind of atmosphere do you prefer in a speakeasy – lively and bustling or quiet and intimate?

Quiet and intimate!

😂😂😂😂

Thank you for your thoroughness.

🍣 “food is my favorite cuisine” 😂 HILARIOUS! I would have sushi daily if it was in the budget. Spider rolls are my favorite.

🥂 oh girlllll that was poetic. Sizzling scallops are rather romantic, aren’t they? It sounds like it’s all in the details for you. I’m all about the little things that make an evening special.

📆 That’s very beautiful because a single day doesn’t make or break 364 other days filled with love. Flexibility is the capstone of every great relationship.

🤫 I could have guessed this response by your prior ones lol

LOL I AM LOUDLY AN INTROVERT

Food is my favorite cuisine, but Good is my favorite (who has calories to waste on bland, tasteless food?). I love spider rolls! But my go-to is simple salmon sake.

Yes to the little things!

We learned to be flexible by fighting, being disappointed, and setting each other up with unspoken expectations. We had to grow through so much.

lol copy! I thought Good was a typo for Food! Silly me 😩😂

Oh I love places like that, hidden treasures! In New Orleans there is a secret place with 3 or 4 tables set up in their garage which sounds shabby but it's not at all. You have to sign up on a long list weeks in advance but is worth the wait!

In the garagggeeeee? lol

Hopefully there aren’t motor oil stains and stuff on the floor. Or was it similar to this set up where you stepped into a place fully transformed?

This definitely sounds like an amazing experience!! I’ve yet to take the time to eat at a speakeasy, but someone shared with me a list of them in DC. I plan to visit at least one the next time I’m there.

Expand full comment

oooohhhh I bet DC’s are even cooler since certain neighborhoods have older and a lot more historic buildings than NYC might. I hope you enjoy yourself when you do make it out to one.

Sounds fabulous. I love a good speakeasy - sort of like a secret club. My favourite kind is quiet and intimate. 🧡

Right! Plus its level of luxury requires prior sign up. I find it hard to imagine the space being crowded or uncomfortable. Thanks for reading, Phoebe.
